As a Marketing major in college, I know the value of a great logo. Everyone knows the legendary brands like Nike, Adidas, McDonald’s, and Coca-Cola. However I bet you’d also be able to guess the oil and gas names behind certain logos when presented with them. That’s the power of a great logo–you immediately recognize what brand stands behind it.
Nike’s logo was famously created by a student for $35, and this branding story, like many others, are always fun to dive into. Let’s ponder some more interesting logo stories from brands in the oil and gas industry.
Exxon’s logo is simply their name, however it comes in red, white, and blue. This is used to convey the company’s patriotism, dating back to a decision made decades ago by John D. Rockefeller. Mobil’s old logo, if you can remember, was a Pegasus surrounded by a blue circle. This was used to show their dedication to travel. You’ll also see that the “X’s” in Exxon’s logo cross up. This is used to show their reliability.
