Phillip Anschutz is an American entrepreneur who bought out his father’s drilling company, Circle A Drilling, in 1961 earning a lot of money in Wyoming.

In the early 1980s, the Anschutz Ranch, with its 1 billion barrel oil pocket, became the largest oil field discovery in the United States since 1968 — this made him his first fortune in the oil biz.
