1859 – Edwin Drake Drills For Oil

Not everybody believed in Edwin Drake. After receiving funding to drill for oil in Pennsylvania, Drake had fields of people visiting to make fun and jeer at his operation. Even though the original funders pulled their investment money, he persevered and struck oil with a revolutionary method of drilling, along with help from new investors. This was the beginning of an industry.
